A Leslieville summer front garden cleanup

Leslieville summer front garden cleanup

Summer's here and the weeds are tall! Here are some before and after pictures of a recent front yard garden cleanup in Leslieville. Although this is a typical small city front garden, it was completely infested with quack grass, which I dug out by hand.

The end result? In the words of the client, the front yard isn't the embarrassment of the neighbourhood!

Summer blooms at James Gardens, Etobicoke

Summer annuals and perennials at James Gardens

Another visit for my client, Dale, means another visit to nearby James Gardens in west end Toronto (Etobicoke). It's public garden run by the city's Parks, Forestry and Recreation department so that usually means a ton of annuals are planted and looked after. I guess it's assumed that visitors will appreciate this vestige of the Victorian gardening style I profiled previously in posts titled "Toronto's James Gardens, in Technicolor" and "Lovers of bedding plants: get thee to James Gardens!".

Luckily, there are perennials and shrubs that anchor the rest of the garden:

A mid-summer garden cleanup of weeds like Tree of Heaven saplings, quack grass and rambling Virginia creeper on top of and  in between the interlocking pavers and in the front garden of this Leslieville house.

Additional cedar mulch and pea gravel was applied to cover the thin areas.

It's July and the living is easy (but the gardening in the heat and humidity, not too easy.)

I'm sharing with you some pictures taken from client gardens and elsewhere.

I hope you're enjoying summer 2014 wherever you are!
